Hand Embroidery Tutorial - Cable Chain Stitch

The Cable Chain Stitch is a hand embroidery stitch that creates a chain-like pattern. It is worked by making a series of small stitches that are slanted in the same direction, with each stitch passing over one or more threads of the fabric. The Cable Chain Stitch is typically worked in a single thread, but can also be worked in multiple threads for a more textured look. It is often used as a decorative border or to create a textured background. To work the Cable Chain Stitch, you will need a needle and thread, and a fabric to embroider on.

Here are the basic steps for working the Cable Chain Stitch:

Begin by making a small knot at the end of your thread. Bring your needle up through the fabric at the starting point for your chain.

Insert the needle back into the fabric a short distance away from the starting point, making sure to angle the needle in the same direction as the first stitch.

Bring the needle back up through the fabric in the same place as the first stitch, but this time pass the needle over the thread between the first and second stitches.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 to create a chain of stitches.

Continue working the Cable Chain Stitch in this manner, making sure to keep the stitches slanted in the same direction and to pass the needle over the thread between each pair of stitches.

Once you reach the end of your chain, bring the needle back through the fabric and make a small knot to secure the thread.

Note: You can adjust the spacing and size of your stitches depending on the desired look.

Also, it is better to practice on a scrap fabric before you start your actual project.
